If you’re thinking of studying abroad in Spain, Tenerife is the perfect option as a stand-alone or side destination. La Laguna is one of the two UNESCO World Heritage sites on the island and home to one of the oldest and most well renowned universities in Spain.
If you’re not sure what lava tubes are, you’re not alone. When a volcanic eruption happens, it not only spills from the top of the volcano (as most imagine), but also to the sides. These outlets formed eventually cool off, dry out, empty and eventually form into lava caves.
If your idea of an adventure is hopping in a car with no set destination and just finding interesting things along the way, then Tenerife is an island that will fulfill your inner explorer. One of my favorite things to do is get in the car and see where the road takes me. On my last trip to the island I had the chance to explore the cultural north.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell truth from fiction—especially when Hollywood is involved. With its stunning coastline, glamorous beaches, lunar-like lava fields, lush interior, and iconic volcano, Mount Teide, looming in the background, Tenerife is an idyllic setting for everything from rom-coms to action adventures. So it’s no wonder rumors abounded (some say promulgated by enterprising tour guides) that films such as The Ten Commandments, The Planet of the Apes, and Star Wars Episode III were filmed here. But that is not the case … or so it seems.
